2009 Tdi Computer Flash

I have just taken delivery of a 2009 Jetta Sportwagon Tdi 6 speed. The car is a blast to drive with the manual and brings back the fun I had in my Audi A4 1.8 turbo. The car has nice power and acceleration but getting into 1st from a standing stop isn’t  that easy with the torque of the motor. Standing starts on hills are a big issue without riding the clutch. I parked it at a restaurant and the valet stalled the car a number of times right  in front of us. When we retrieved the car later we could smell the clutch.  I have heard others fell the same way and have had the same issue from the dealer .
I have driven many manuals and even have driven HPDE events on tracks such as Pocono and Lime Rock so the driver isn’t the issue. We were at Lime Rock Park this past weekend and ran into F1 Tuning (www.f1tuning.us ) . They flashed the computer for us and we took it for a ride. The difference is remarkable. The car is so much more drivable getting  into 1st gear I was amazed. The other big difference is the acceleration felt in 2nd , 3rd and 4th  gear.

I drove the car home yesterday afternoon and was stuck in traffic on the way to LaGuardia Airport and the car was a pleasure to be in. Day’s earlier I wouldn’t have been as happy. The car also seem’s to have gotten more power as the computer learned the new tune over the weekend.

We drive up to Ct. every weekend ( at least 250 miles a weekend ) and the mileage of the TDi will keep us smiling after getting rid of the no fun gas guzzler we traded in. The mileage of the Sportwagon even seems to be also getting better as I have put more miles on it.

Nothing ever remains stock for long in our house and the Sportwagon will be no exception. Next up will be the Thunder Bunny nose !

Thanks F1 Tuning !

I was a little skeptical at first because there was not much feedback on your site. So I dropped an e-mail to you and you responded promptly. We spoke about what I wanted to accomplish and your knowledge of automobile performance was very detailed and exciting. You answered all my questions with great expertise and put to rest all of my fears. After sending my ECU to you the return time was unbearable. It was only two days which was superb but I was anticipating the result to the point of loosing sleep (Who wouldn't). The FedEx guy dropped it off, I ripped it out of the box and installed it very, very quickly and carefully and then I started the car. I could already tell by the whistle of the turbo that this car was happy which made the owner extremely happy. So I buttoned the car up and jumped in the cockpit to give it a whirl. I live in the country so we have a lot of twisting, turning, and winding roads to let loose on. All I have to say is wow, this car is a fire breathing dragon. It was so much more than what I had expected. I am not a novice I had been tuning cars for a long time mostly Honda’s and I have driven well tuned cars. But this is my first VW and a 2005 PD TDI at that. My car is totally stock with the exception of a drop in K & N filter and GTI wheels. It is unbelievable to get that much power from just software, unbelievable. You did not do your self justice friend, so I will. I know from all your soon to be friends here in Western Pennsylvania you are going to be SWAMPED. It has been a great pleasure!

I also wanted to tell you that I changed the DV valve as you suggested and it made a big difference. Thank you for that recommendation. I really feel the car in the higher gears now. Much more torque. Not only was it original but someone had broken it and had it sealed around the vacuum line with caulking. But now I can feel the chip much better. Just wanted to let you know.

Our Latest Testomonial!

Hi Pete,

As you told me, the difference between stock and having the computer files reconfigured are stunning. I also removed the EGR and replace it with a race pipe from Dieselgeek. That again made a difference. I then had the muffler and converter removed and replace them with straight pipes and again an increase in performance and an awesome sound. The Beetle's performance is amazing and the mileage on combined highway (approx. 300 miles) and city (approx. 170 miles) increased to 47.3 mpg. I find the Beetle even more fun to drive now that the modifications you suggested have been made. I have purchased boost, oil pressure and EGT gauges and am looking forward to their installation as that will then complete the modifications I want to make to the Beetle. Also, my 25 year old son finds every excuse he can to drive the car.

Thanks again,

R. Bruce Anderson
